01

Rate Design Advocacy

The PSC petition, Steady Use Rate expansion, and defaulting heat pump customers onto fair rates.

02Critical before 2028

Cap-and-Invest Positioning for Geothermal

Securing geothermal's place in New York's cap-and-invest program before the window closes.

03Legislative priority

G-REC: Geothermal Renewable Energy Credits

Credit geothermal installations for the renewable energy they deliver (S9648).

04

Federal Tax Policy

Section 48, split ownership, and IRA provisions that keep geothermal projects financeable.

05

Thermal Energy Networks as a Distinct Market

Recognize thermal energy networks as their own market category.

06

Data Centers & Building Code Standards

Data center legislation and code standards that put geothermal heating and cooling to work.

07

Grid of the Future

Regulatory reform proceedings shaping how New York plans and pays for its grid.

2026 Legislative Priorities

May 1, 2026Opposing the proposal to roll back the CLCPAClimate law & energy plan

NY-GEO strongly opposes the April 28 proposal and earlier budget proposals that would suspend or reverse CLCPA goals. Ground source heat pumps are a key, underappreciated technology for meeting them.

Apr 23, 2026Case 15-E-0302: Renewable Energy Program & Clean Energy StandardPSC & utility programs

In response to the Coalition for Safe and Reliable Energy's petition, NY-GEO finds no need for a PSL § 66-p(4) hearing to suspend renewable obligations — geothermal can help solve the reliability issues raised.

Dec 11, 2025Urging the Governor to sign the 100-Foot Rule repeal (A8888/S8417)Gas infrastructure

The 100-foot rule costs ratepayers about $500 million a year subsidizing new gas hookups. Repeal lets customers choose cleaner options like geothermal.
